About us
Our Story And How It All Started
Welcome to Ali Restaurant, a cherished family business on the island of Kos. Since 1986, we’ve been delighting guests, starting as “Taverna Asklipios” in Platani. In 1989, we moved to Platani Square and became known as Ali. Our kitchen, once led by Mrs. Zinet and her sisters, is now a family affair with Ali, his sons, and now his grandchild. In 2012, we relocated to downtown Kos at the corner of Artemisias and Thessalou. Join us for a taste of tradition and family hospitality!
Since 1986
HISTORY
1986
The restaurant Ali is a family business on the island of Kos. It opened in 1986 in Platani (Kermetes) by the Hatzisouleiman family (present in Kos since the 16th century) and was initially called “Taverna Asklipios” on the way to Asklipion, near Platani Square. The idea to originally name the tavern this way was because our house was across from the archaeological site of Asklipios.
1989
In 1989, the restaurant moved to Platani Square, where it became known by the name Ali. Originally, the kitchen was under the responsibility of Mrs. Zinet, with the invaluable help of her two sisters, Ayse and Dilper, while the service was managed by Ali and his two sons, Ahmet and Hasan.
2000’s
The tradition of family involvement continued with the participation of the grandchild Ali and aunt Nurcemal, maintaining the warm and welcoming atmosphere that patrons had come to love.
2012
After 25 years of successful operation in Platani, the family decided to relocate in 2012 to the downtown area at the new address on the corner of Artemisias and Thessalou, continuing their legacy of exceptional hospitality and cuisine.
